I still think it's a big step backwards how we're still classing people into 'races' over skin colour. It's outdated thinking. Fair enough, there's a lot of discrimination in the world, but how are you going to get equality when you create divisions in the first place whilst getting sensitive over the diversity that exists? It's ridiculous that the African-American community is overprotected whilst discrimination towards people who can't defend themselves, like the elderly or disabled, is often socially acceptable or ignored.

That being said, I'd say it was Bush's legacy, McCain choosing Palin and the recent market crash that really put the vote in Obama's favour, yet there must have been a lot of fad voting going down.

Politics is a game. Obama being black was huge for his win for the right reasons and the wrong reasons. I think Obama really didn't win for being black and I also think he could do good for this country but Obama's race will always be a factor during his presidency whether we like it or not and when I mean "we" I mean the American people. (that means everyone Catoblepas.)

It's really not fair to say that "a few idiots on the streets of Harlem" constitute the opinions and motives of all black Americans, but that's still pretty funny and aggravating.

On the other hand though, I'm glad those people voted for Obama despite their reasons. Obama thinks logically and has good morals like most democrats so I would've voted for him regardless of skin color, and now that he's elected the next black man to run for president won't be half as big a deal.

Racism works both ways. I see a great deal of it from BOTH sides, and it seems that Obama's charm won over crowds more than anything he really had to say. For the most part well-spoken, it's no doubt that he was appealing as an African American and a policy maker. This was also believed to be the case when Kennedy was elected. Young, unique, fresh, he approached America as a real change, only because he was so very young and new. Political alliances aside, this was what I believe to be a large contributing factor in the outcome of the 2008 election.

When I look at a black man, and I see a man who smiles, who exhibits talent, who appreciates his friends and family... I see a man worth my admiration. I see a man who makes the best of his life and surrounds others with happiness. That's a great, great man.

But when I look at a black man who complains about how bad he has it, or how bad "his people" have it, I want to get as far away from that person as possible. What am I suppose to do about his problems? I'm sick and tired of listening to people complain about problems that I can't fix. I can't do anything for them and it makes me miserable having to listen to it. That is not a great man.

No one is immune to hate, crime and the ugly aspects of humanity. No one is dealt a perfect hand of cards in life. How much of your life is going to be wasted scrutinizing over some bad people when you could be focused entirely on the better things in life that matter to you?

I understand what you mean. I would of supported Obama (if I was 18 at the time, my birthday was 2 days after the election), but not because "he's black". Doing that is like shooting yourself in the foot. I supported him because I agreed with his energy policy (going into environmental engineering when I go to college) and his plans for the economy.
